US trade deficit in 2025 reaches one of the largest levels in 65 years
In 2025, the United States’ trade deficit reached $901.5 billion, marking one of the largest deficits since 1960. The monthly deficit widened to $70.3 billion, highlighting a significant imbalance in external trade.
The deficit increase was driven by a 3.6% rise in imports alongside a 1.7% decline in exports. These shifts reflect stronger domestic demand for foreign products and weakened positions of American exporters in global markets.
Moving forward, this substantial trade imbalance may influence US economic policies, prompting efforts to strengthen domestic production and boost exports.
