Men’s brains age faster than women’s: scientists uncover causes and a way to slow the process
A study analysing MRI scans of over 4,700 healthy individuals aged 17 to 95 found that men’s brains age faster than women’s. This is especially evident in a more rapid reduction in brain volume and degradation of areas responsible for memory, movement, vision, and sensory processing.

In some brain regions, the rate of age-related changes in men is nearly twice that in women. However, scientists note that this brain aging process can be slowed by playing video games, with strategy and action genres particularly effective for cognitive training.
This discovery opens new opportunities for preventing debilitating brain diseases like Alzheimer’s by encouraging active mental engagement and gaming in adulthood.
