ADA head says independent review of incident has been completed
American Diabetes Association Chief Executive Officer Charles “Chuck” Henderson said that the independent review of events at the association’s June conference has been completed. According to STAT News, the review was conducted by five independent volunteer investigators.
Incident at the conference
According to Henderson, on June 5, during the American Diabetes Association Scientific Sessions in New Orleans, several participants were removed from the event after repeated violations. The association’s head noted that shortly afterward he apologized to the people directly affected by the situation, as well as to the broader diabetes community, for the stress caused that day.

He also said that he had promised to ensure a full independent review of the circumstances of what happened. Henderson believes that the findings of the review should be heard directly rather than perceived through three months of competing versions of events.
Two claims
In his column, Henderson said that much of the public outrage was caused by two claims that the independent investigators examined directly. He urged the community to move forward, stressing that it cannot afford to spend time on internal conflict.
