GLP-1 drugs may increase bone and tendon injury risk, new study finds

Recent research suggests that GLP-1 drugs like Ozempic could raise the risk of bone and tendon injuries, as well as conditions such as osteoporosis and gout. This finding is significant given the widespread use of these medications for diabetes management and weight loss.

Scientists report that GLP-1 medications, once considered nearly miracle drugs, may significantly weaken the skeletal system. Alongside common side effects like abdominal pain and constipation, there is a concerning rise in osteomalacia — an accelerated softening of bones by 150%. This raises questions about the long-term safety of these treatments.

Further clinical studies are expected to clarify how GLP-1 drugs impact bone health and to develop strategies to mitigate these associated risks.
