Science releases special issue on women’s health — STAT News
On October 1, the scientific journal Science published a special issue dedicated to women’s health. It examines, among other topics, menopause, chronic pain, and sex differences associated with many diseases.
More attention to the topic
As STAT News reports, the words “ovulation,” “endometriosis,” and “menopause,” which were previously considered taboo, are increasingly heard in everyday conversations. The outlet links this to growing interest in and awareness of women’s health.

Understudied differences
Despite increased attention to women’s health, women remain underrepresented in clinical trials, according to STAT News. Women’s health is less well studied than men’s health, and a significant share of research is still focused on reproductive aspects.
In the introduction to the special issue, the authors noted that biomedical science has advanced, but sex differences in many non-reproductive diseases that occur across all age groups remain insufficiently understood.
