Hong Kong tightens oyster import controls following norovirus outbreak
Authorities in Hong Kong have launched an investigation into the import and sale of raw oysters after a series of food poisoning cases largely linked to norovirus. Between 18 January and 9 February, the city recorded 37 outbreak clusters involving 115 affected individuals, 101 of whom had consumed raw oysters.

Some outbreaks were traced to oysters from South Korean company Seojun Mulsan, while others involved local suppliers Jeton International Food and 88 Investment Holdings. Imports and sales of their products were banned from 5 February. Inspectors conducted surprise checks at around 430 venues.
Authorities also reminded the public that oysters can accumulate pathogens if water sources are contaminated, advising restaurants and consumers to avoid eating raw oysters.
