Chinese study finds vegans less likely to reach 100 years old

According to research conducted by Chinese scientists, elderly vegans are less likely to live to 100 years old compared to those with a more varied diet. The study was published in The American Journal of Clinical Nutrition.

The research analyzed data from over 5,200 individuals aged above 80, collected between 1998 and 2018 as part of a Chinese healthy longevity project.

Scientists compared dietary habits, body mass index, and lifestyles of those who lived to 100 versus those who died earlier. Participants were grouped based on their diet types.

The study found that people following various forms of vegetarianism had a lower chance of reaching 100 years old compared to omnivores, with a statistically significant association found only for vegans.

This suggests that dietary diversity may play a significant role in longevity. Researchers highlight the need for further study on how different diets affect lifespan.

Future research may provide deeper insights into which nutritional factors are most critical for achieving advanced age and which diets best support long life.
