Amazon to Invest $3 Billion in a Fast-Delivery Service in India – Reuters
The American company Amazon plans to invest $3 billion by 2030 in the development of its ultra-fast delivery business in India. The main goal of the investment is to close the gap with local competitors, who have made it commonplace to receive orders within minutes.
According to the investment plan, $1 billion will be allocated by the end of 2027, and the remaining $2 billion will be allocated by 2030. The company noted that over the past three months, the annual gross sales rate for the “Amazon Now” division exceeded $1 billion, making it the fastest-growing business in the history of its Indian division.
The planned funds will be directed toward the following key areas:
* expanding the network of small neighborhood “Amazon Now” warehouses from 750 to approximately 1,300 locations by April of next year;
* upgrading warehouse inventory management software and launching artificial intelligence tools for demand forecasting;
* a focus on everyday essentials rather than high-value items intended for one-time purchases;
* equipping each warehouse with specialized cold storage rooms to preserve the quality of food products.
According to analysts’ estimates, the Indian express delivery market is expected to grow from the current $19 billion to $41 billion by 2030. Currently, Amazon holds only 6.2% of this segment, while local companies Blinkit, Swiggy, and Zepto collectively hold 77% of the market, and Walmart’s Flipkart service holds 11%.
