Argentina experiences one of the world’s largest industrial declines
Over the past two years, 2,436 companies in Argentina have closed, resulting in the loss of 73,000 jobs. Industrial capacity is operating at only 57.9%, the lowest level in a decade. This represents a production decline of 7.9% during 2024-2025, ranking Argentina second worldwide in terms of industrial contraction.
This downturn highlights significant economic challenges affecting not only the industrial sector but also the labour market and overall economic growth. In response to job losses and reduced capacity utilisation, the government will need to craft new support strategies for the industry.
The future trajectory will depend on the government’s and businesses’ ability to stabilise the economy, attract investment, and stimulate industrial recovery in the coming years.
