In Houston, United States, brokerage platform Robinhood announced plans to allow clients to trade individual US stocks around the clock, including on weekends, starting next year. The company also unveiled artificial intelligence-based automated trading tools and plans to add perpetual cryptocurrency futures to its app, CNBC Top News reports.

Weekend trading

The new feature is expected to expand the 24/5 trading schedule that Robinhood launched in 2023. It currently allows trading from 8:00 p.m. Sunday to 8:00 p.m. Friday US Eastern Time. After the planned update, trading in certain US stocks will also be available on weekends.

The company made the announcement on Tuesday evening during the HOOD Summit conference in Houston. Following the news, Robinhood shares rose 3% in Wednesday morning trading.

AI agents and crypto derivatives

Robinhood also unveiled automated trading tools using artificial intelligence. They will allow users to create their own agents to automate part of the trading process and implement strategies designed to operate around the clock.

In addition, the platform plans to open trading in perpetual cryptocurrency futures contracts. Such contracts involve the use of leverage and make it possible to gain exposure to crypto assets without owning the underlying assets.

Robinhood CEO Vlad Tenev said the company aims to provide active traders with tools that were previously available to hedge funds, major banks and quantitative trading firms.
