Trump welcomed the decision in a post on Truth Social, calling the upholding of the exemption’s repeal a major victory. The president, who supports the use of tariffs and other protectionist measures, claims that because of this exemption, the U.S. lost billions of dollars in unpaid import taxes.
The plaintiff in the case was an auto parts distributor from Michigan. His attorneys did not provide CNBC with an immediate comment on the trade court’s decision.
