Ukrzaliznytsia and Spain's Renfe will collaborate on the development of transportation services

JSC "Ukrzaliznytsia" and Spain's national railway operator, Renfe, have agreed to a strategic partnership aimed at developing freight and passenger rail transport. The collaboration is formalized in a memorandum signed with Renfe’s subsidiary, Renfe Proyectos Internacionales Sociedad Mercantil Estatal. 

Under the agreement, the parties plan to implement technologies for automatic gauge change, establish interconnection points between different systems, and develop the 1,435-mm European gauge in Ukraine.

The companies will pay particular attention to exploring opportunities for organizing passenger routes on the European gauge, as well as cooperation in the areas of freight transport and intermodal logistics between Ukraine and EU member states. In addition to exchanging expertise on traffic control systems, safety, and increasing capacity, the railway operators will work on making the infrastructure barrier-free. For its part, Ukrzaliznytsia will share with its Spanish colleagues its unique experience in ensuring the continuity of transportation and the rapid restoration of infrastructure amid a full-scale war.

Ukrzaliznytsia has rerouted three trains through Stryi.

During the summer travel season, Ukrzaliznytsia passengers have been leaving personal belongings in train cars more frequently. The number of reports regarding lost property has exceeded 100 cases per day.
