South Korean ministerial candidate pledges to consult Seoul on housing
According to The Korea Herald, Hong Ji-seon, the candidate for South Korea’s minister of land, infrastructure and transport, said he would closely consult with Seoul authorities to reduce differences over housing supply plans.
Consultations with Seoul City Hall
Hong Ji-seon, who is currently vice minister, made the statement the day after he was nominated to replace Minister Kim Yoon-duk. Kim Yoon-duk faced objections from Seoul city authorities over a proposal to use part of Yongsan Park in the central part of the city for housing development.
The candidate told reporters on his way to the government complex in the administrative city of Sejong that he would hold sufficient consultations with Seoul city authorities in advance. According to him, this should contribute to the effective implementation of housing policy.

Housing for young people and newlyweds
Hong also stressed the importance of cooperation between central and local authorities, citing his experience in housing and urban policy in the Gyeonggi provincial administration. He said he would work to promptly provide quality housing in areas where people want to live, paying particular attention to the stability of housing conditions for young people and newlyweds.
Before President Lee Jae-myung can officially appoint Hong Ji-seon as minister, the candidate must undergo parliamentary confirmation hearings.
