In Pakistan, RDA to intensify fight against illegal housing schemes — Dawn

In Rawalpindi, Pakistan, Rawalpindi Division Commissioner Salman Ghani has instructed the Rawalpindi Development Authority (RDA) to intensify measures against illegal housing schemes, unauthorized construction and other violations within its jurisdiction. This was reported by Dawn.

Land use control

The relevant issues were discussed at a meeting at the RDA chaired by Salman Ghani. He instructed officials to ensure effective monitoring and proper regulation of land use in the area controlled by the authority.

The commissioner stressed that strict action must be taken against illegal housing schemes, unauthorized construction and other violations in accordance with applicable rules and regulations. He also instructed officials to regularly check the status of approved and unapproved housing projects to prevent construction or marketing activities that violate the applicable rules.

Geotagging and record verification

RDA staff were instructed to enhance geotagging of relevant sites and development activities. According to the commissioner, this should improve monitoring, data verification and transparency in the authority's work.

Officials must also thoroughly verify official records on land use, housing schemes and development activities. Such records must be properly maintained, updated and verified, while violations, discrepancies or unauthorized activities must be addressed in a timely manner if identified.

Separately, Salman Ghani called for improved coordination and information sharing among relevant departments on land use, planning approvals, field inspections and enforcement measures. He noted that up-to-date records, field control, geotagging and modern technological tools will help improve the management of development activities and ensure timely responses to violations.
