Morocco’s appellate court halts offshore online casino blocking
Morocco’s appellate court has temporarily suspended a Commercial Court ruling from January that mandated the blocking of offshore online casinos. The lifting of restrictions and the halting of daily fines took effect on February 10, providing relief to internet users and platform operators.
Earlier this year, the Commercial Court ordered telecom companies Maroc Telecom, Orange Maroc, and Inwi to restrict access to offshore sites, threatening fines of $1000 per day of non-compliance. The telecom operators challenged this decision, citing technical challenges, potential degradation of service quality, and threats to internet neutrality. Considering these factors, the appellate court temporarily revoked the blocking measures pending a final verdict.
This temporary ruling allows users and operators to access offshore gaming platforms without limitation, though the situation remains under judicial review with possible changes after the final court decision.
