Crown Sydney Casino and The Star Sydney were fined for admitting a 16-year-old
Crown Sydney and The Star Sydney were fined for allowing a 16-year-old boy, who was using a fake driver’s license, into their gaming areas. According to ABC News Australia, Crown Sydney must pay $1.75 million, while The Star Sydney must pay $500,000.
The New South Wales Independent Casino Commission (NICC) reported that the teenager visited Crown Sydney in the Barangaroo area from April to August 2025. During that time, he was admitted to the gaming areas 19 times, granted silver membership status, and illegally served free alcohol.
During the same period, the boy visited The Star Sydney three times, also using a fake ID. The NICC imposed the fines following an investigation conducted by Liquor and Gaming NSW.

NICC Chief Commissioner Philip Crawford stated that the teenager lost a significant amount of money during his visits to the casinos. According to him, both establishments acknowledged serious shortcomings in their identity verification and customer registration procedures, which allowed the minor to gain access to the venues.
Crown Sydney told ABC that the boy’s mother was present during some of his visits. A casino representative said the venue notified the regulator as soon as it learned of the visitor’s underage status and cooperated with the investigation.
Both casinos have committed to implementing additional measures, including strengthening identity verification and customer registration procedures, as well as providing additional training for staff. The boy has been banned from visiting both establishments for five years, beginning when he turns 18.
