In Finland, Green Party chair Sofia Virta questioned the realism of the goal of achieving budget adjustments of €8–11 billion during the next electoral term. At the same time, she denied that her party was abandoning the agreement on the debt brake.
Doubts over the scale of adjustments
As YLE News reports, Virta believes it is necessary to discuss whether the set target can be achieved. According to her, it is impossible to say in advance whether budget adjustments of €8–11 billion can be made during the next electoral term and which instruments could be used to achieve this.
Virta stressed that the ways of meeting the debt brake targets must be carefully considered. In her view, commitments under this mechanism should not hinder fair and socially oriented economic policy.

The Greens' position and Liike Nyt's withdrawal
The Green Party leader named cuts to so-called harmful corporate subsidies as one possible source of savings. In her assessment, this could provide up to €1 billion in savings.
Virta also stated that the Greens had not agreed to measures that would dismantle the welfare state or further slow down environmental and climate action. Earlier, the Liike Nyt party withdrew from the entire agreement on the debt brake. Its chair, Harry Harkimo, wrote on Facebook that he considers it unrealistic to make adjustments of €8–11 billion during the next government term.
