Finnish government may abandon new support for data centers — YLE News
During budget negotiations, the Finnish government is considering the possibility of not introducing new support for data centers at all. YLE News reports. No final decision has yet been made, and discussions within the government are ongoing.
Reviewing the need for support
At the end of June, the electricity tax benefit for data centers expired. Previously, the government had planned to include new support in next year's budget to replace the abolished benefit.
According to YLE, the government is reviewing the issue because the importance of such support has decreased. The authorities want data center projects to be implemented, but are now assessing whether new support is necessary for their realization.

About 30 million euros had been planned
The annual cost of the previous tax benefit for data centers was 47 million euros. The new support considered earlier was to be smaller, at approximately 30 million euros. It was planned to be presented either in the main budget proposal or in an additional government proposal in the autumn.
At the beginning of August, Finance Minister Riikka Purra did not propose new support for data centers in her draft budget. Joona Räsänen, a member of parliament from Finland's Social Democratic Party, said that the funds planned for this purpose could be put to better use. In his view, the support would not contribute to the establishment of new data centers in the country, and the industry itself has no unambiguous position on it.
