TikTok adds voice comments, polls and photo carousels
TikTok has begun rolling out new tools for the comments section: voice comments, polls, comments with photo carousels, and Live Photo. TechCrunch reports on the update. The company aims to make comments a space for more active user interaction rather than merely reactions beneath videos.
Voice comments
To leave a voice comment, a user needs to tap the microphone icon in the comment field and record a message of up to one minute. Once published, it can be listened to by anyone who taps on the comment.
Voice comments will be rolled out globally over the next month for users aged 18 and over. A TikTok spokesperson told TechCrunch that the same Community Guidelines that apply to other content on the platform also apply to this format. To detect and remove materials that violate these rules, the company uses human and automated detection tools, including speech-to-text transcription.

Polls and photo carousels
Creators can now add polls in their own comments beneath their videos. The feature, which was previously available only to some users, has become global. Up to five answer options can be offered for voting, and a poll duration can be set. Creators will be able to track the results directly in the comments section.
In addition, TikTok has allowed up to nine photos to be added to a single comment instead of one. Live Photo comments are already available globally: they allow users to see brief movement before viewing the full image. Photo carousels in comments will also be rolled out to users worldwide over the next month.
