Adam Reynolds to miss Broncos match against Storm in Brisbane

Brisbane Broncos captain Adam Reynolds will not play in the National Rugby League’s Round 26 match against Melbourne Storm at Lang Park in Brisbane. As ABC News Australia reports, Reynolds is saying goodbye to Lang Park while watching the game from the sidelines.

Penultimate round of the season

The Broncos-Storm match opens Round 26, the penultimate round of the 2026 NRL season. Neither team is still in contention for the finals. Brisbane Broncos enter the match as the reigning champions, while ABC describes Melbourne Storm as one of the league’s perennial contenders.

Testing the restart rule

During the match, the NRL is trialling a new rule after a try. The team that conceded an opponent’s try may choose whether to take the kickoff or receive the ball after the points are awarded.

According to ABC, the league is using matches involving teams that did not reach the finals to test this change. The idea was discussed before the start of the season, but its introduction was later abandoned. ABC notes that the new mechanism brings rugby league closer to the format of American football.
