Alex de Minaur defeats Max Kasnikowski in Brisbane — ABC News Australia

In Brisbane, Australia, tennis player Alex de Minaur defeated Max Kasnikowski in the first match of the Australia-Poland tie in the Davis Cup. The world No. 9 beat the ATP No. 231 6:3, 6:0 in less than an hour, ABC News Australia reports.

Match progress

The first set lasted 35 minutes. Kasnikowski put up resistance, but de Minaur won the set 6:3. In the second set, the Australian did not concede a single game to his opponent and completed it in 20 minutes.

During the match, de Minaur addressed the packed stands at Pat Rafter Arena several times, urging spectators to support him more actively. After the victory, he said that he had missed Brisbane and playing on this court, and also noted the atmosphere at the arena.

Australia’s next match

In the second singles match of the tie, Australian James Duckworth is set to play Poland’s No. 1 Kamil Majchrzak.

Before competing in the Davis Cup, de Minaur had a longer-than-expected break after the US Open. At that tournament, he lost to Botic van de Zandschulp, who was ranked 70th in the world at the time. This defeat was only de Minaur’s second in the second round of Grand Slam tournaments since 2023.

In 2026, de Minaur reached the quarterfinals of only one Grand Slam tournament — the Australian Open, where he lost to eventual champion Carlos Alcaraz. At tournaments in Paris, London and New York, he was defeated by lower-ranked players.
