Canadian surfer Erin Brooks won the Trestles Pro at Lower Trestles in the United States, claiming her third consecutive victory in World Tour events. In the men's competition, Brazilian Miguel Pupo won, defeating Japan's Kanoa Igarashi in the final, Channel NewsAsia reports.

Brooks' third victory

The 19-year-old Brooks failed to advance beyond the second round at the first six events of her second season on tour. She later won in Tahiti and at the Fiji Pro, then extended her winning streak at the Trestles Pro.

In the quarter-finals, Brooks beat five-time world champion Carissa Moore, and in the semi-finals, reigning Australian world champion Molly Picklum. In the final, she competed against world rankings leader Gabriela Bryan and scored 13 points to her opponent's 11.90.

After her victory, Brooks said that her unsuccessful start to the year and difficult heats had motivated her to work even harder. She became the first surfer to win three consecutive World Tour events since Australian Stephanie Gilmore achieved the feat in 2008.

Pupo beats Igarashi

In the men's final, 28-year-old Igarashi initially took the lead with a combined score of 14.40 points. However, 34-year-old Pupo received 8.5 points for one of his waves, then added 6.27 points to finish the final with 14.77.

It was the Brazilian's second victory this year. Pupo, who is in his 16th year on tour, said he considers this season his last chance and intends to fight until the end.

The tour will next move to two postseason events in Portugal and the Philippines, featuring the top 24 men and top 16 women. The season final will take place in December at Pipeline in Hawaii.
