England's cricket team defeated Sri Lanka in the third match of the T20 series at Emirates Old Trafford and returned to first place in the world rankings in this format. England won the series 3-0 and extended their winning streak against Sri Lanka in T20 internationals to 15.
Rapid chase of the target
Sri Lanka, who batted first after England's decision, scored 124 runs in 18.5 overs. England reached the target of 125 runs in 9.4 overs. Jos Buttler remained unbeaten on 61 from 32 balls, while captain Harry Brook scored 34 from 21 balls.
Eneurin Donald scored 13 runs from six balls, while Brook was run out shortly before the end of the match. Buttler sealed the victory with a one-handed six over deep midwicket.

England bowlers restricted the opposition
Sri Lanka's top scorer was Pathum Nissanka, who made 36 from 24 balls. Kamindu Mendis scored 35 from 28 balls, while captain Charith Asalanka made 16 from 14. The Sri Lankan team lost their final six wickets for 17 runs in fewer than five overs.
For England, Sonny Baker took 2 for 17, Jofra Archer 2 for 23, and Will Jacks 2 for 31. In the two previous matches of the series, England won by margins of 119 runs and six wickets. As Sky Sports News reports, after the T20 series the teams will play three ODI matches, the first of which is scheduled for September 22 in Durham.
