Yaw Preko backs development of Colts football in Ghana — MyJoyOnline
Former Ghana national team footballer Yaw Preko has supported the Ghana Football Association’s renewed efforts to develop Colts football, which is intended to help train future players. MyJoyOnline reports.
Development of grassroots football
Preko’s statement came after President John Mahama called for the restoration of the traditional Colts league. The Ghana Football Association also announced the start of the 2026/27 Colts Football season.
Preko, who himself came through the Colts system, believes Ghana must strengthen the foundation of youth football. He said he fully supports the association, calling grassroots football crucial and urging its improvement.

859 active clubs
According to Preko, a strong foundation will help nurture future stars who will represent the country. According to the Ghana Football Association, the renewed Colts programme currently has 859 active clubs.
The association is investing in coach training, competitions and player development. The initiative is intended to create a pathway for young talents from community football to professional football and national teams.
