Arne Slot is leaving Liverpool: the club has announced his resignation

Liverpool has dismissed head coach Arne Slot after two seasons with the team. This was officially announced on the club’s official website.
Slot became the club’s head coach in June 2024, replacing Jürgen Klopp after his nine years in the position, and won the Premier League title in his very first season.
It is currently unknown who will replace Slot. According to BBC Sport, the leading candidate for the position is former Bournemouth manager Andoni Iraola of Spain.
This year, Liverpool finished only fifth in the Premier League, repeating their worst result in the last 10 seasons. In the Champions League, Liverpool under Slot did not advance past the quarterfinals—they were eliminated by PSG twice in a row.
In a statement, Liverpool noted that “we collectively concluded that changes were necessary for the club to move forward” and added that this decision was not taken lightly.
“It goes without saying that this was a difficult decision for us as a club. The contribution Arne has made to Liverpool during his time with us has been significant and—most importantly for the fans and for us—successful,” the club’s press office stated.
“We would like to take this opportunity to express our gratitude to Slot, who will always hold a special place in the club’s history as the manager who brought Liverpool its 20th Premier League title. He also helped the club navigate one of its most difficult periods following the loss of Diogo [Jota in a car accident]. The compassion and humanity he showed spoke volumes about him as a person,” the club added.
After winning Liverpool’s milestone 20th English league title, Slot was named the Premier League Manager of the Season for 2024/25. That same year, the Dutchman led the team to the English League Cup final (against Newcastle — 1:2).
