Bernadette Amani called her move to "Bayern" a dream come true
Bernadette Amani, a midfielder for Bayern Munich and the Ivory Coast national team, described her move to the German club as a dream come true. In the first half of the season after joining Bayern, she won the Women’s Bundesliga and the German Cup, according to Deutsche Welle English.
The 28-year-old soccer player noted that the professional environment in Munich has been a significant step forward for her compared to her time playing for Tenerife in Spain. According to her, Bayern has a larger coaching staff, which helps the players maintain a high level of performance over the long term. Amani also said that working with her teammates and coaches has helped her improve her understanding of the game, positioning, ball control, and body posture.
The soccer player grew up in the village of Dugbafla in Côte d’Ivoire and initially played soccer with boys. Her parents wanted their daughter to get an education, so she moved to Abidjan. It was there that Amani saw her first women’s league match and learned that female soccer players from Côte d’Ivoire could play for clubs in Serbia and Turkey. This convinced her that her passion could become a career.

In 2019, the club Onze Soeurs de Gagnoa invited Amani to a tryout, after which she joined the team. A year later, she moved to Spain’s third division, and five years later, she was already playing in Liga F for Eibar. She later transferred to Tenerife, from where she joined Bayern Munich in January.
Amani recently captained the Ivory Coast national team at the Women’s Africa Cup of Nations. The team lost to Algeria 1–2 in the quarterfinals and subsequently fell to Ghana by the same score in a match to determine who would advance to the intercontinental playoff for qualification for the Women’s World Cup in Brazil. Two days after the loss to Ghana, she was already on the Bayern Munich bench for the German Super Cup match against Wolfsburg, which the Munich club won 3–0.
