Betis beat Villarreal and moved up to third place in La Liga

Spain’s Betis defeated Villarreal 2-1 in a La Liga match at La Ceramica stadium in Villarreal, Spain. Thanks to this victory, the team moved into third place in the standings and drew level on points with Real Madrid, Dawn reports.

The hosts opened the scoring in the 29th minute: Gerard Moreno scored from close range after Tajon Buchanan headed the ball down to him. However, before halftime, Betis scored twice within four minutes to take the lead.

Cucho Hernandez converted a rebound after Peter Gulacsi saved a shot by Ez Abde. The visitors’ second goal was scored by Natan Bernardo de Souza: after a corner, Villarreal’s goalkeeper deflected the ball to the Brazilian, who sent it into the net from close range.

Villarreal created more chances in the first half. Alvaro Valles diverted Santi Comesana’s shot onto the post, while goals by Moreno and Buchanan were disallowed for offside. In the second half, Betis could have extended their lead: Hernandez’s shot was blocked, and Pablo Fornals failed to control the ball when he was in front of goal.
