Bournemouth beat Real Sociedad in European debut — MyJoyOnline
English side Bournemouth defeated Real Sociedad in San Sebastián in their first-ever match in European competitions. The Europa League encounter ended 2:1 in favour of the visitors.
As MyJoyOnline reports, Bournemouth gained the advantage in the first half thanks to active pressing. In the 11th minute, Justin Kluivert finished an attack with a goal that was initially disallowed for offside. After a VAR review, the goal was confirmed: the Dutchman was behind the ball at the moment of Adrien Truffert's cross.
Two goals before the break
Soon after, the visitors doubled their advantage. Alex Scott spotted Rayan's run behind the defenders and found the Brazilian winger with an accurate pass, with Rayan heading the ball into the net at the far post. Bournemouth could have scored a third as well: Evanilson headed Marcus Tavernier's free kick, but the ball struck the inside of the far post and bounced back into play.

In the first half, the English team moved the ball quickly and caused problems for the hosts' defence. Scott was active in midfield, Evanilson stretched the opposition's defence, and Kluivert found open spaces.
Hosts' pressure after the break
After the break, Real Sociedad improved their play and reduced the deficit shortly before the end of the first hour of the match. Sergio Gómez sent in a cross from the right flank that touched nobody and flew into the far corner of the goal.
At the end of the match, the hosts increased the pressure in search of an equaliser. Bournemouth goalkeeper Đorđe Petrović made several important saves, including denying striker Orri Óskarsson in stoppage time. The visitors held on to their narrow advantage and began their Europa League campaign with a victory.
