Broncos thrash Knights and advance to NRLW preliminary final — ABC News Australia

Australian club Brisbane Broncos defeated Newcastle Knights 40–16 in a Women's National Rugby League NRLW elimination match in Brisbane, Australia. The reigning champions advanced to the preliminary final, where they will play Gold Coast Titans next weekend, ABC News Australia reports.

Lead before halftime

At Langlands Park, the Broncos went into halftime with a 34–0 lead. The team opened the scoring after just 56 seconds: following a high kick by Jesse Southwell, Knights fullback Lucy Spaine lost the ball, and Romy Teitzel scored a try.

Robinson, Shenae Mato, Tamika Upton and Georgia Bartlett also scored before the break. Teitzel completed a double. Upton played at fullback and left the field 20 minutes before the final siren.

The Knights completed a set of six for the first time only in the 16th minute. The victory was Brisbane's fourth in a row.

Tries in the second half

After the break, Brianna Clark scored another try for Brisbane. Newcastle improved their play in the second half, with tries scored by Mercedez Taulelei-Siala, Shanice Parker and Jesse Southwell.

Broncos player Bri Spreadborough suffered an ankle injury. Lock Lillian Yarrow was placed on report for a lifting tackle.
