CAF annuls Edo Queens' WAFU-B final win — Premium Times Nigeria
The Confederation of African Football has annulled Nigerian club Edo Queens' victory in the WAFU-B qualification final for the CAF Women's Champions League. According to Premium Times Nigeria, the match against Ghana's Ampem Darkoa Ladies in Ouagadougou, Burkina Faso, will resume from extra time with the score at 2:2.
Why the penalty shootout was annulled
On September 5, Edo Queens beat Ampem Darkoa 4:1 in a penalty shootout after a 2:2 draw in regulation time at the Stade du 4-Août. However, the CAF Women's Football Organising Committee ruled that the shootout was held in breach of the regulations because the teams did not play the stipulated 30 minutes of extra time.
The decision was made following a protest filed by the Ghana Football Association on behalf of Ampem Darkoa. CAF cited Articles 13.1 and 72.4 of the CAF Women's Champions League regulations: in the event of a draw in the final, the teams must play two 15-minute halves, and penalties are possible only if the score remains level after extra time.
The committee noted that the referees had been informed before the match of the need for extra time. At the same time, during the second half, the referee received an instruction to proceed directly to a penalty shootout if the score was level after 90 minutes. CAF found that the referee acted in good faith and that neither Edo Queens nor Ampem Darkoa were responsible for the procedural breach.

The final will continue from a 2:2 scoreline
CAF rejected Ampem Darkoa's request to replay the entire match, as the first 90 minutes were played properly and there is no evidence that the breach affected the course of regulation time. Therefore, the 2:2 scoreline stands.
The teams must play 30 minutes of extra time and, if necessary, take a new penalty shootout. CAF instructed that, to the extent legally and practically possible, the match be resumed under the conditions that existed at the end of regulation time: taking into account the players on the pitch, available substitutions, disciplinary status and substitutions already used. The date, time and venue for the continuation of the WAFU-B match are to be determined jointly by CAF and the football associations of Nigeria and Ghana.
The WAFU-B representative at the final tournament of the 2026 CAF Women's Champions League has not yet been determined. It will be the winner of the resumed final.
