CAF sets Kenya a deadline for venue readiness for the Africa Cup of Nations
In Kenya, all arenas and training facilities designated for the 2027 Africa Cup of Nations must be fully ready by January 2027. This deadline was set by the Confederation of African Football (CAF), Nation Kenya reports.
Inspections of sports facilities
Kenya, together with Uganda and Tanzania, will host the 36th Africa Cup of Nations. The tournament is scheduled to take place from June 19 to July 17, 2027.
According to the publication, CAF technical experts assessed the pace of the country's sports infrastructure preparations twice. The first formal inspection of the main facilities — Talanta Sports City and the Moi International Sports Centre, Kasarani — was conducted in February 2025. At the time, construction and reconstruction were described as being at an advanced stage.

The second major inspection took place on August 26–28, 2026. A 12-member CAF delegation assessed the condition of the two main arenas, as well as alternative training facilities — the Ulinzi Sports Complex and the Kipchoge Keino Stadium in Eldoret.
Previous experience
A Nation Kenya editorial notes that less than a year before the start of the competition, the country should already be holding test events at the declared arenas and training grounds. In the publication's view, this would help identify shortcomings in advance and eliminate them before the tournament begins.
Kenya has previously lost the right to host football tournaments. In 1996, CAF stripped the country of the right to host the Africa Cup of Nations and transferred the tournament to South Africa. The 2018 African Nations Championship, which Kenya was supposed to host, was later moved to Morocco.
