Yegor Kurtsov won a historic silver medal for Ukraine at the Junior Grand Prix
Ukrainian figure skater Yegor Kurtsov won the silver medal at the Junior Grand Prix event in Ankara. This achievement marks a historic milestone for Ukraine at this level of competition, according to the National Olympic Committee of Ukraine.
The Junior Grand Prix in figure skating has concluded in Ankara, the capital of Turkey. For Ukrainian figure skater Yegor Kurtsov, this competition marked his first international appearance of the new competitive season.
Based on the results of the short and free programs, the Ukrainian took second place in men’s singles with a total score of 201.95 points, finishing behind Japan’s Daiya Ebihara.
In the short program, Yegor performed a program from last season and received 71.00 points. This is a new personal best for the Ukrainian skater—his previous best score was 70.05 points, which he achieved at the 2026 World Junior Championships.
In the free skate, Yegor presented a new routine and received 130.95 points for it.
For Yegor Kurtsov, this is his first career medal at a Junior Grand Prix event. In addition, this is Ukraine’s first medal in men’s singles at a Junior Grand Prix event in seven years—since Ivan Shmuratko’s bronze medal at the Enja event in 2019.
Yegor’s performance also marks Ukraine’s best result in men’s singles at the Junior Grand Prix in 28 years, since Andriy Kyforenko’s victory in 1998.
