The Estonian yacht NOLA won its class at the Copa del Rey regatta
The Estonian-owned yacht NOLA won the Sail Racing ORC A class at the 44th Copa del Rey MAPFRE regatta in the Bay of Palma, near Mallorca. In a race that came down to the final leg, the NOLA crew edged out the Rán—a two-time ORC world champion.
NOLA is a Carkeek 40-class yacht. According to ERR News, the Estonian team’s main rival was Rán, owned by Niklas Zennström. The decisive race took place in light and shifting winds: NOLA held its position, won its class, and claimed the overall winner’s trophy.

The Copa del Rey regatta takes place in the Bay of Palma and brings together nearly a hundred yachts, as well as world and European champions. King Felipe VI of Spain also participated in the competition, sailing aboard the Navy yacht Hispania.
On the first day, NOLA won one race and finished second in another. The next day, the team won a 32-nautical-mile coastal race, after which it took sole possession of first place in its class. The team’s tactical efforts were led by Portuguese Olympic bronze medalist Hugo Rocha, while Norwegian Axel Magdal served as navigator. NOLA co-owner Margus Uudam called the result the team’s first major victory at the regatta.
