An extraordinary event took place across the ocean at the start of the National Hockey League’s regular season. Rangers goaltender Igor Shestyorkin shot the puck across the entire rink and joined the club of NHL goaltenders who have scored goals.

The day before, the Russian had contributed to a 5–1 rout of the Tampa Bay Lightning. It was the Rangers’ goaltender who scored the final goal of the game. Late in the game, with the Lightning having pulled their goalie, Shestyorkin fired a precise shot across the entire rink.

The Rangers’ goalie became the first goaltender to score a goal in the current NHL season. There were no such goals last season. In contrast, the season before last, Philip Gustafsson (Minnesota) and Alex Nedelkovich (Pittsburgh) each scored a goal.

Shesterkin became only the 12th goalie to score a goal against his opponents. The record holder remains former Philadelphia goalie Ron Hackstall, who scored two goals.

Manchester City has appealed the Premier League’s ruling on financial violations — Sky Sports News.

Russia wants to confiscate the assets of the new FIDE president, Timur Turlov.

It should be noted that the Russian Chess Federation is no longer permitted to operate in Crimea and the Donbas.
