Fencer Song Se-ra reaches Asian Games final in Japan — Korea Herald
South Korean fencer Song Se-ra advanced to the final of the women’s individual épée event at the Aichi-Nagoya Asian Games in Japan. In the semifinal at the Aichi Sky Expo arena in Tokoname, Aichi Prefecture, she defeated Japan’s Tamaki Terayama 15:14.
Victory by a single touch
Song Se-ra led 3:2 in the first period, but the score was tied at 7:7 after the second period. In the third period, the Korean athlete trailed for the first time at 9:10, and Terayama later extended her lead to 13:11.

After scoring one touch back, Song Se-ra was trailing 13:14. She levelled the score with a counterattack after parrying her opponent’s attack, and then landed the decisive touch. This was reported by Korea Herald.
Chance for first individual gold
Reaching the final has already guaranteed the 33-year-old athlete at least a silver medal. Song Se-ra is ranked third in the world and is seeking her first individual Asian Games gold medal. At the 2023 Asian Games in Hangzhou, she won silver in the individual épée event and also became champion as part of South Korea’s women’s team. The final is scheduled for 19:30 on Tuesday.
