FIVB included Russia’s national team among participants in the 2027 World Championship — Interia Sport

According to Interia Sport, the International Volleyball Federation has included Russia’s women’s national team on the list of 32 participants in the 2027 World Championship, which will be held in the United States and Canada. The tournament is scheduled for August 31 to September 12.

Russia added to the list of participants

The outlet notes that the United States and Canada have not yet said whether they will allow the Russian team to enter their territories to take part in the competition.

If Russia’s national team competes at the World Championship, it could potentially play against Poland’s team in the group stage or playoffs. Polish volleyball players secured a place at the world championship thanks to finishing in the top four at the recent European Championship.

Background to the FIVB decision

In the summer, the International Olympic Committee announced an easing of sanctions against Russian and Belarusian athletes. After that, the FIVB unfroze the rankings of Russia’s men’s and women’s national teams, which, according to Interia Sport, was preparation for the possible admission of the teams to world championships.

Earlier, Russia’s national team received permission to participate in the 2027 Men’s World Championship. At the same time, the Russian team withdrew from the tournament in Poland, as it expected that the Polish authorities would not allow it to enter the country.
