The German soccer club Bayer 04 Leverkusen has announced the appointment of a new head coach. Carles Martínez Novell has become the new head coach of Leverkusen,taking the helm of one of the Bundesliga’s leading clubs.
The Spanish specialist replaced Kasper Hjulmand. The Dane had been coaching the “Pharmaceuticals” since September. Under his leadership, Bayer finished sixth in the German league and reached the round of 16 in the Champions League.
Leverkusen’s new coach spent three seasons at the helm of Toulouse in France. With Martinez Novell at the helm, the "Violets" finished in the middle of the Ligue 1 standings three times in a row. This was his first experience at the senior level.
Martínez Novell began his coaching career in his home country in 2000. He initially coached the youth team of the modest Granollers. Later, he worked within the structures of Barcelona’s “Espanyol” and “Barcelona.” The Spaniard also worked with youth teams in Qatar and Kuwait.
