Hull City beat Manchester United 2-0 in Premier League match

Hull City defeated Manchester United 2-0 in an English Premier League match at the MKM Stadium in Hull. It was the hosts' first game in the top division after a nine-year break.

As Channel NewsAsia reports, the Hull side caused problems for their opponents from the outset and opened the scoring in the 17th minute. After a corner, Oli McBurnie's shot was saved by goalkeeper Senne Lammens, and Semi Ajayi sent the ball into the net from the rebound.

Two goals from set pieces

Hull City scored their second goal seven minutes before halftime. Regan Slater delivered a free kick into the penalty area, and Nabil Mendy headed the ball past Lammens.

Manchester United failed to create enough scoring chances. Marcus Rashford, who came on as a substitute in the second half and played for the club for the first time since December 2024, had several promising moments, but the visitors did not score.

The visitors' best chance

Manchester United's best opportunity came in the 78th minute through Bryan Mbeumo, but his shot from a central position was saved by Hull City goalkeeper Konstantinos Tzolakis. The hosts' defence maintained the lead until the final whistle.

Before the match, Manchester United had not lost to league newcomers in their opening game of the season. Michael Carrick's team arrived in Hull after finishing third in the previous season, a result achieved after the coach was appointed in January to replace Ruben Amorim.
