LASK overturn four-goal deficit against Celtic to reach Champions League
Austria’s LASK defeated Scotland’s Celtic 5-1 in the second leg of the Champions League qualifying play-off in Linz and advanced to the league phase of the tournament. The Austrian team won the tie 5-4 on aggregate, despite trailing 0-3 before the second leg.
According to Channel NewsAsia, citing Reuters, Celtic extended their lead in the tie in the 21st minute through a goal by captain Callum McGregor. After that, the Scottish club held a four-goal advantage on aggregate.
LASK score five goals
LASK levelled the score in the match in the 32nd minute, with Moses Usor scoring. At the start of the second half, Robert Ljubičić put the hosts ahead, while Samuel Adeniran scored the Austrian team’s third goal in the 58th minute.

In the 90th minute, substitute Florian Flecker scored from close range. The goal was awarded after a VAR review: it levelled the aggregate score and sent the match into extra time.
Extra-time goal
In the 109th minute, Adeniran scored his second goal of the match and secured LASK’s victory in the tie. In the 115th minute, Celtic goalkeeper Viljami Sinisalo saved a penalty, but this did not change the outcome of the match.
After the match, McGregor said his team had been passive all evening and looked frightened. Celtic’s captain also apologised to the fans and the club for the defeat. The Scottish team will play the next campaign in the Europa League.
