Dan Lawrence moved England closer to victory over Pakistan

After the third day of the second Test match against Pakistan at Lord's in London, England's cricket team held a lead of 357 runs. According to Channel NewsAsia, citing Reuters, play was shortened by rain: when it ended, England were 177 for seven wickets in their second innings.

Dan Lawrence remained unbeaten on 50 runs. The 29-year-old scored them from 66 balls, hitting two sixes and six fours. England had three wickets remaining in their second innings.

Lawrence's performance

Lawrence was recalled to the Test team for this series after a two-year break that followed Ben Stokes ending his international career. This is Lawrence's second consecutive half-century: in the first Test at Headingley, he scored 51 runs. England won then and took a 1-0 lead in the three-match series.

On the third day, England resumed their second innings at 81 for three wickets, but play did not begin until 14:20. Emilio Gay was dismissed soon after a delivery from Muhammad Abbas, adding one run to his overnight score. Harry Brook scored 34 runs before edging a delivery from Abbas into the gloves of wicketkeeper Muhammad Rizwan. Jamie Smith, who made a half-century in the first innings, was dismissed for seven runs.

Pakistan's position

Muhammad Abbas took three wickets in the second innings, bringing his match tally to seven. Gus Atkinson was dismissed off a delivery from Mohammad Ali. Lawrence, in particular, hit a six against spinner Ali Usman.

Pakistan scored 110 runs in their first innings, while their best single-innings total in this series so far is 171 runs. Opening batter Imam-ul-Haq will be unable to play because of a calf injury: he did not take the field on the third day. Two days remained until the end of the match.
