Lorena Vibes won a stage of the Tour de France Femmes for the second time in a row
Dutch cyclist Lorena Wibbes of the SD Worx-Protime team won the second stage of the Tour de France Femmes, which finished in Geneva on August 2. She won the sprint for the second time in a row and solidified her lead in the race’s general classification.
The stage ran from Eglis, Switzerland, to Geneva and covered a distance of 147.9 kilometers. Vibes attacked about 250 meters before the finish and broke away from the main group, crossing the finish line with a lead of several bike lengths.
Italian Elisa Balsamo finished second in the stage, and 39-year-old Dutch rider Marianne Vos came in third. The winners of the two previous editions of the race, Pauline Ferran-Prévot and Kasia Niewiadoma, as well as one of the favorites, Demi Follering, finished in the main group.

Over the final 39 kilometers, Dutch time trial specialist Rianne Markus led alone. The peloton caught up with her less than 500 meters from the finish line. Throughout the day, five riders were in a breakaway, and temperatures reached 34 degrees Celsius.
“We were chasing all day. And then Rianne put in the work. In the end, I got some clear space and gave it my all in the final 250 meters,” said Vibes. This victory marked the 27-year-old’s seventh stage win at the Tour de France Femmes—a record in women’s cycling.
Thanks to bonus seconds from her two victories, Vibes leads Kim Le Court by 14 seconds in the general classification and Follering by 16 seconds. Monday’s third stage will take the peloton into France: the route will feature a steep 11-kilometer climb near Geneva, followed by 15 kilometers of flat terrain to the finish in Poligny.
