McIlroy cuts Reed’s Race to Dubai lead — Sky Sports News
Golfer Rory McIlroy finished tied for second at the BMW PGA Championship in Wentworth and cut the gap to Patrick Reed in the season-long Race to Dubai standings. In the final round, McIlroy carded a 68, finished the tournament at 15 under par and lost to winner J.J. Spaun by two shots, Sky Sports News reports.
Final-round chances
Before the final day of the tournament, McIlroy was two shots behind. During the final round, he briefly shared the lead, but failed to convert a number of birdie opportunities.
McIlroy said he struck the ball well but had difficulty reading the putting line. According to him, he hit several good putts that did not go into the hole and converted fewer chances during the week than he could have.

This is McIlroy’s fourth runner-up finish at the DP World Tour’s flagship tournament since his victory in 2014. He previously finished second at Wentworth in 2018, 2022 and 2024. Former Ryder Cup captain Paul McGinley noted that McIlroy had many opportunities on the greens but did not convert them.
Race to Dubai battle
For sharing second place with three other golfers, McIlroy received 532 Race to Dubai points and cut the gap to Reed to 308 points. Reed withdrew from the BMW PGA Championship midway through his round on Friday due to an injury.
McIlroy’s next tournament is expected to be the DP World India Championship, scheduled for October 15–18. He is then set to play at the Abu Dhabi Championship on November 5–8 and the DP World Tour Championship on November 12–15. McIlroy is aiming to win the Race to Dubai: an eighth such title would allow him to equal Colin Montgomerie for the total number of victories in the standings.
