Margarita Pesotska won the bronze medal at a prestigious tournament in Tunisia
Margarita Pesotska, captain of the Ukrainian national table tennis team, got off to a strong start in the 2026 season by claiming a spot on the podium at the WTT Contender Tunis international tournament.
The Ukrainian demonstrated a high level of skill and won the bronze medal in competition against the world’s top players.
Throughout the competition, Pesotska, seeded fourth, confidently overcame the resistance of her renowned rivals.
In the group stage, she defeated Camille Lutz of France, the bronze medalist of the World Team Championships, with a score of 3-0, and later, in a tense match, overcame the 2016 Olympic silver medalist, Germany’s Xiong Shan.
The quarterfinals proved to be a real test for the Ukrainian, where she faced Taiwan’s Jian Tun-Chuan.
In a dramatic match, Margarita snatched a 3-2 victory, securing her a spot among the tournament’s medalists and advancing to the semifinals.
In the semifinal, Pesotska faced the top seed and world No. 17, South Korean Choo Jeong-hui.
Despite a fierce battle in every set, the Ukrainian tennis player lost to her renowned opponent 0-3, finishing her run with a bronze medal.
Her success in Tunisia allowed Margarita to make a rapid leap in the world rankings, climbing 16 spots at once.
Currently, the Ukrainian ranks 50th, which is her best result in the last three years and indicates a return to peak athletic form.
