Musetti changed his doubles partner at the US Open and chose Kostyuk

Italian tennis player Lorenzo Musetti has changed his partner for the upcoming U.S. Open. Instead of Russian Anna Kalinskaya, he plans to play mixed doubles with Ukraine’s No. 2-ranked player, Marta Kostyuk. Musetti announced the change of plans after competing at the ATP 1000 tournament in Montreal. According to Ubitennis, the Italian has decided to compete in mixed doubles alongside Kostyuk.

Initially, Musetti was entered in the US Open paired with Anna Kalinskaya. However, about 10 days before the entry deadline, the tennis player changed his mind. Marta Kostyuk will be the Italian’s new partner. For the Ukrainian, competing in mixed doubles at Grand Slam tournaments is nothing new.

Kostyuk already has a track record of successful mixed doubles performances. At the 2023 French Open, she reached the quarterfinals alongside El Salvador’s Marcelo Arevalo. The Ukrainian achieved the same result at Wimbledon that same year. However, Kostyuk has not yet competed in mixed doubles at the US Open. Now she may have the opportunity to make her debut at the American major paired with Musetti.

Whether the duo makes it into the main draw will depend on their combined ranking. Based on their current rankings, Kostyuk and Musetti have a chance to be among the 16 pairs that will secure a spot in the tournament.

What This Means for Kalinska

The change in partners came as unpleasant news for Anna Kalinska, who was originally supposed to play alongside Muetti. It is particularly noteworthy that Kalinska and Kostyuk were once close friends. Before Russia’s full-scale invasion of Ukraine, they were close friends.

After 2022, Kostyuk cut off contact with the Russian tennis player. Since then, their relationship has remained strained. For Kalinska, this isn’t the first time she’s been linked to Italian tennis. She previously dated leading Italian tennis player Yannick Sinner, who tops the world rankings.

Kostyuk Heads into the US Open in Good Form

The Ukrainian is heading into the American major after a strong season. In 2026, Kostyuk has already won tournaments in Rouen and Madrid, with her WTA 1000 title in Madrid marking one of the greatest achievements of her career. She has also performed well at the last two Grand Slam tournaments. At Roland Garros and Wimbledon, Kostyuk reached the semifinals.

Now the Ukrainian has another chance to prove herself at the US Open—this time in mixed doubles. If she and Musetti qualify for the main draw, it will mark Kostyuk’s debut in mixed doubles at the American tournament. This was reported by Ubitennis.

Svitolina advanced to the round of 16 at the WTA 1000 in Toronto.

Prior to that, Elina Svitolina advanced to the third round of the WTA 1000 tournament in Toronto. In a tough match, the Ukrainian defeated Spain’s Jessica Buzas Maneiro 6-7, 7-6, 6-4. The match lasted nearly three hours, and Svitolina clinched the victory after three tense sets.

Earlier, Ukrainian tennis player Elina Svitolina advanced to the quarterfinals of the WTA 500 tournament in Washington. In the round of 16, she defeated Polina Kudermetova, who previously represented Russia and now plays for Uzbekistan. Following this victory, the Ukrainian continues her quest for the title on American courts.
