Netflix will release Rafa's documentary series about Nadal

Netflix has announced the release of a documentary miniseries titled "Rafa," which explores the phenomenal career and personal life of Spanish tennis player Rafael Nadal.

The project promises to reveal previously unknown details about the professional journey of the athlete, who has become one of the greatest athletes of our time.

The official premiere of the series is scheduled for May 29, 2026.

The documentary series will consist of four episodes covering the most emotional and challenging period—the final stage of Nadal’s performances on the ATP Tour throughout 2024.

Unlike many standard sports biographies, the series "Rafa" is positioned as "an in-depth exploration of the personality behind 22 Grand Slam titles."

Viewers will see a unique combination of archival footage and exclusive footage from the final season.

The filmmakers chose to focus on the most challenging battle of the tennis player’s life. The Spaniard’s main rival is not Roger Federer or Novak Djokovic, but his own body, which has endured immense strain for years.

The documentary series delves into the “physical and emotional cost of success,” focusing on the superstar’s vulnerability.

Viewers will get a behind-the-scenes look at the grueling battle with chronic injuries and constant pain that accompanied Rafael’s return to the court.

To create a complete portrait of the legend, his former colleagues will also appear in the film. “Federer and Djokovic will appear in the film” to share their own memories, and the legendary John McEnroe will round out this star-studded lineup with commentary.

The series is directed by Emmy Award winner Zach Heinzerling, who is known for his ability to deeply explore human stories.

The production was handled by Skydance Sports, a recognized leader in the creation of premium sports content.

The release of the film will serve as a symbolic culmination of the Spaniard’s career, which officially came to an end in November 2024 at the Davis Cup. It was this dramatic year that “marked the Spaniard’s final farewell to the sport.”

Netflix declined to compete for Warner Bros

Brigitte Macron will appear in the new season of the series "Emily in Paris"
