Novak Djokovic set an age record in men's tennis

Serbian tennis player Novak Djokovic became the oldest quarterfinalist in the history of ATP 500 tournaments. In doing so, he set a new age record in men’s tennis.

At 39, the veteran advanced past the round of 16 at the ATP 500 tournament in Beijing. Djokovic surpassed the achievement of Swiss player Roger Federer, who reached the same stage at the tournament in Basel at the age of 38 years and two months.

In addition, the Serbian matched the feat of another longtime rival. Like Rafael Nadal, he has won 31 consecutive matches without a single loss since his debut at a single tournament. However, the Spaniard made such a convincing start at Roland Garros, not at the secondary China Open.

This marks Djokovic’s seventh visit to the Chinese capital. He has previously won six titles in Beijing. His most recent trophy dates back to 2015.
