Kamilla Rakhimova knocks Leylah Fernandez out of WTA 1000 in Beijing — Interia Sport
In Beijing, China, Kamilla Rakhimova defeated Canadian Leylah Fernandez in the second round of the WTA 1000 tournament — 6:2, 4:6, 6:3. Fernandez, seeded 23rd, won the WTA 500 tournament in Singapore last week but was unable to continue her run in China. Interia Sport reported the match result.
Rakhimova’s advantage in the deciding set
Rakhimova started the match confidently, breaking serve in the very first game and winning the opening set 6:2. In the second set, Fernandez took a 3:0 lead, but her opponent levelled the score at 4:4. The Canadian nevertheless won the next two games and levelled the match in sets.
In the deciding set, Fernandez had break points at 2:1 but failed to convert them. She later lost her serve despite leading 40:15. Rakhimova consolidated her advantage and finished the match in the ninth game of the third set.

Next opponent
In the third round, Rakhimova, whom the source calls the world No. 76, will play 10th seed Iva Jovic. The winner of this match will next face Iga Swiatek or Donna Vekic in a match for a place in the quarterfinals.
Swiatek defeated Chinese tennis player Gao Xinyu 6:2, 6:3 in her second-round match. The WTA 1000 tournament in Beijing will run until October 11.
