Chess player Mai Narva defeats Zhu Jiner at tournament in Mozambique

Estonian chess player Mai Narva won a WR Women’s Chess Tour event in Maputo, the capital of Mozambique, defeating Chinese grandmaster Zhu Jiner in the rapid and blitz finals. This was reported by ERR News.

Road to the final

In the quarterfinal, Narva defeated Algeria’s Lina Nassr, a three-time African junior champion, 2:0. In the semifinal, the Estonian chess player beat Egypt’s Shrook Wafa, a five-time African women’s champion, 1.5:0.5.

Narva is ranked 40th in the world women’s classical chess rankings with a rating of 2405. She is also 40th in the world rapid rankings with a rating of 2352.

Finals against Zhu

In the rapid final, Narva faced Zhu Jiner, who is fourth in the world women’s classical chess rankings with a rating of 2550 and sixth in rapid with a rating of 2470. Narva drew the first game with the white pieces and won the second with black, securing victory in the final.

In the blitz final, Narva again defeated Zhu, 3:2. The top two participants based on their combined rapid and blitz results will earn the right to compete in the WR Women’s Chess Tour series final, which will take place in Stuttgart at the end of November.
