FC Shakhtar Donetsk has officially announced the signing of Venezuelan winger Gleyker Mendoza, who previously played for Kryvbas in Kryvyi Rih, and this deal immediately attracted attention due to both the player’s status and his performance this season, as he has consistently demonstrated a high level of play and was one of the leaders in the Ukrainian league.
The contract between the player’s representatives and the Donetsk club runs through June 30, 2031, underscoring Shakhtar’s long-term commitment to the player, and he will wear the number 77 jersey, a number traditionally associated with attacking players in modern soccer.
This season, Mendoza has played 26 matches in the Ukrainian Premier League, scoring 11 goals andfive assists, which allowed him to climb to second place on the UPL’s top scorers list and become the league leader in the “goal + assist” category, demonstrating consistency both in finishing attacks and in creating them.
The player also made a name for himself with a spectacular performance in the 25th-round match against Kyiv’s “Dynamo,” where he scored four goals in a single half, and this four-goal haul was officially recorded as the fastest in the history of the Ukrainian Premier League, which only underscores his explosive attacking potential and explains the interest from a giant of Ukrainian football.
