Shane Lowry wins Irish Open for the second time, Trump presents trophy
Irish golfer Shane Lowry won the Irish Open in Dunbeg, Ireland, for the second time. The trophy was presented to the winner by U.S. President Donald Trump, who attended the competition at Trump International Golf Links, owned by the Trump family, Channel NewsAsia reports, citing Reuters.
Lowry's record victory
Lowry finished the tournament at 23 strokes under par. On Sunday, he made a birdie at the 18th hole and posted a score one stroke worse than the course record — eight strokes under par — which he had set the previous day.
The golfer won by a record margin of 11 strokes. This came 17 years after Lowry became only the third amateur to win a European Tour event at a home tournament. He is also the winner of the 2019 Open Championship.

Trump's visit
Trump was in Ireland on a 48-hour visit. On Saturday, after meeting Irish leaders in Dublin, he arrived at the tournament, and play was suspended while the presidential helicopter landed between the fairway and a nearby pasture.
The U.S. president greeted Lowry at the first hole and watched the play from a balcony near the 18th hole alongside his sons Donald Trump Jr. and Eric Trump and several grandchildren. They were also joined by American golfers Brooks Koepka and Patrick Reed, who finished in second place.
After the tournament ended, Trump called Lowry an “incredible” golfer and said he would remove tariffs on Irish whiskey. Lowry thanked Trump and Irish Prime Minister Micheál Martin for attending the competition. In Dublin on Saturday, thousands of people protested against Trump, while in Dunbeg the president was welcomed with applause.
